Year 6 Spring Term 2019

The children in Year 6 are working very hard this term. Please get in touch if you need to speak to me about any issues regarding your child.

It is great to see so many children attending study club after school on a Thursday.  In addition to this, if you wish your child to have extra practice on SPAG.com the computer room will be open before school each day for them to come in from 8.15am.

Curriculum

In RE lessons we are learning all about the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.  This continues our preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  We will then be studying Lent and Holy Week.

In English lessons we have been learning how to write discussion texts, explanations and non-chronological reports.  We have written about Judaism as part of our multicultural education.  We are going to be studying the books, 'Boy in Striped Pyjamas' and 'Clockwork' this term, as well as looking at the poem, 'The Highwayman'.

In Maths we have been learning all about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes.  We will also be learning about decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion during this term.

In Science we are currently learning about the classification of living things and we will soon be learning about microorganisms.  This term we will also look at Evolution and Inheritance.

In Geography we are learning about Russia.  We will look at both the human geography and physical geography of the country.

In Art the children are also looking at Russia as they explore Russian architecture, Russian dolls and Faberge eggs.

Year 6 PE lessons are on Tuesday afternoons.  They will also be completing a 'Daily Mile' run each day (weather permitting).

Homework

The homework for this term is mainly in Study books.  The children will highlight the pages to be completed each week.  Homework should be brought into school on a Friday.  It is still very important for the children to read aloud to an adult on a regular basis and to practise their spellings.  Reading diaries will be checked on a Friday and Spelling tests will be on a Wednesday.
