Autumn Term Vehicle- Making a Museum
Mrs Mawdsley and Miss Molloy are very proud of Year 6, who have made a fantastic start to the Autumn Term.
Our curriculum vehicle -'Making a Museum'- is very much underway.
The children have now visited the Ancient High House where they met the staff and asked them lots of interesting questions about how a museum is run. They met the Heritage sites coordinator, the collections officer (who is also an archaeologist and local history expert), as well as a museum guide and curator. While at the the museum they were given the opportunity to imagine they were setting up an exhibit; they had to think about how they would go about it and what issues they would need to consider.
Ancient High House
Our trip to Liverpool World Museum was a great success and the children saw countless exhibits and artefacts. They also enjoyed meeting an archaeologist who taught them how to be archaeologists when handling real artefacts from Ancient Greece.
On both of our trips the children were complimented on their excellent behaviour and attitude.
Well done Year 6.
We have made lots of plans towards our own museum which we are looking forward to opening
CURRICULUM AUTUMN TERM
Our Class saint is Maximilian Kolbe and the children have learnt about his life and the reasons why he became a saint. We are studying the bible and the stories of key figures in the old testament through our topic, 'The Story of the People of God'.
In our English lessons we have been reading lots of exciting Greek myth stories and will be writing our own versions of these stories.
During October our English lessons will focus on autobiographies and biographies. We will be learning about Black history through these lessons and reading the autobiography, 'Coming to England' by Floella Benjamin.
We have been learning lots about place value in our maths lessons and over the next few weeks we will be learning formal written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Our Science lessons for this half term will focus on evolution and inheritance. We have been looking at fossils and had fun making our own versions of fossils. We thought about how and why fossils are often found in museums and learnt about Mary Anning, a famous fossil hunter. At the world museum we were able to see and explore a wide range of fossils.
In our History lessons we will be looking at artefacts which could be used in a museum. Our main focus will be on Ancient Greece and the influence the Greeks have had on society today.
Going to the world museum has been a great way to promote 'Global awareness' and in Geography we are going to be learning all about the world.
The Ancient Greeks were great artists and architects. In our art lessons we will be learning all about Greek art and creating some Greek artefacts and models to be displayed in our museum.
We are going to be setting up a museum cafe so will be learning about food from around the world. We will all make a Greek salad and have a go at designing and making healthy dishes which could be served in our museum cafe.
The children will be learning about E-safety and the importance of responsible use of the internet. They will also be using ICT skills to present information for the museum.
Mrs Smithson from BWH has started teaching the children Spanish this term. They will be learning how to speak about food and animals in Spanish.
The children are enjoying their music lessons with Mrs Helliker from BWH. They have been learning a range of songs and how to read music. We are hoping to perform a song at our museum opening.
PE lessons are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the children will be learning to play High 5s and Tag rugby.
