Summer Vehicle : Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

Have you ever been to the seaside?

What might you see there?

What do you enjoy doing at the seaside?

At the end of this unit of work we are hoping to host our own seaside themed day at school. We will be showing our puppets and pictures in, 'St. Austin's gallery' and enjoying lots of seaside themed activities.

This term we will be learning about lots of interesting things:

In Maths we will be learning about multiplication, division, halves and quarters, position and direction, numbers to 100, time and money.

In Science we will be learning about the weather and the seasons and then we will be finding out all about plants.

In Art we will be looking at work by the artist Jeannie Baker. We will be using collage to create our own seaside picture.

In Geography we will be learning about maps and looking at physical and human features in the world around us. We will be comparing Australia with the UK.

In History we will be learning about how seaside holidays have changed over time. We will be looking at the similarities and differences between the seaside now and then.

In DT we will be looking at a range of puppets and finding out about a famous puppet designer - Jim Henson. We will be designing and making some puppets of our own.

In Music we will be listening to a range of music. We will be learning about the beat of the music, rhythm, duration and dynamics. We will also be using a range of tuned and untuned instruments to accompany music and create music of our own.

In ICT we are learning how to use the keyboard and the mouse and how to use various tools on the computer programs. We will be creating pictures and writing and will be using many programs and games to consolidate our learning from other subjects. We will also be using programmable toys to practise our skills in coding.
