Week 7
Hello, I hope you have all had a lovely half term. It was lovely to see you all on our live google classroom the last day of half term. I hope you all had fun with our games and enjoyed seeing your friends.
I’m very excited to continue our vehicle ‘Animal Watch’ this term but we will now be thinking about animals that like to live in hot places, like the Safari!
What do you know about the Safari already? Can you think of any animals that live there?
Maths
Unit 11: Shape and space
This is a 3 week unit and introduces positional language along with the names and key properties of common 2d and 3d shapes.
Key vocabulary to use:

Literacy
Our book this week is ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’. Follow the link to listen to Mrs Owston reading the story then complete the writing task about the book.
Phonics
We have reassessed the phonics groupings and will be able to offer one group some live google classroom sessions 4 days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday). This is the majority of the class and at a very important stage of starting to read.
If you are in this group, you will be invited to join the session at 11am each day for a 30 – 45 minute phonics and reading sessions. Those who are not in this group will continue to be supported with virtual classroom links and direction to reading books. The information will be sent out by email as usual.
*Please note the first live phonic session this week is on Tuesday 23rd at 11am. Please login to the classroom like last week and follow the daily link to access the session.

Monday

Reading- pick a new ‘share with me’ book from the oxfords owl website and share it together with your parents.
Red words- lots of you will now be at the end of the red book band words- Fantastic, well done! If you are, then please move onto the green book band words and start to practise reading three of these. (These can be found in the Reading section on the Class Page)
If you child still needs to recap over the red book band words then please do not worry, keep practising these regularly to help your child grasp them.

Tuesday
-Watch the Giraffe information video. Discuss with your parents what you see and any new facts you learn. Have a go at writing a sentence about the new facts.
Remember:
- Capital letters and finger spaces in-between each word.
- grab your fingers and sound out the words so that you can hear all of the sounds
- use your sound mat to copy down the sounds you hear.
- Read through your work at the end to check it makes sense.

PE- this term we are starting to focus on our ball skills, throwing, catching, rolling, kicking. Watch the video below and see which throwing activities you can do. How many times can you throw and catch the ball? Can you try it with a smaller ball?

Friday
RE- It is now the season of Lent. Lent is a time where we are preparing and waiting for Easter when Jesus died on the cross to save us all. We think of how we can be more like Jesus and follow in his footsteps. Lent lasts for 40 days and 40 nights as this is how long Jesus was in the desert for rejecting all temptations.

Write the number 40 in bubble writing and decorate it in various purple colours and textures.
