What a fun start to the New Year we have had, with a WOW week learning all about The Wind in the Willows and doing lots of writing about all the characters. We are currently also learning about Antarctica and the famous explorer Robert Falcon Scott and have enjoyed listening to tales of his perilous journey.
Year 1 learning this term:
English: Fantastic Voyages – we are reading about trips to the moon and to the bottom of the sea! Fairy tales – we will be listening to lots of traditional tales and having a go at writing our own.
Maths: Number bonds, subtraction using a number line, the relationship between addition and subtraction, measuring (length, height, weight and volume).
Religious Education: Jesus, Teacher and Healer. Forgiveness.
Science: Winter - seasonal change, everyday materials.
ICT: Illustrating using a paint program and finding images using the web.
Topic: What is an explorer? Looking at Antarctica and Captain Scott’s journey and also Columbus.
P.E. is on a Monday, please ensure no earrings are worn for this.
The children have their books changed weekly, but if you they would like their book changed earlier, please send a note in or ask them to speak to any of the adults in the classroom to request this.
Homework is given on a Friday and is to be handed in by the following Wednesday, when there will also be a spelling test on the spellings given for homework.
