Forest School

Forest School in Year One

I am so excited for children to start Forest School this year! In Year One children will have weekly Forest School sessions, no matter the weather (except high winds and thunder storms)! That means we are likely to get very muddy so below is a suggested kit list.

I believe that Forest School is important for building your Childs confidence and encourage their skills through the different activities we will be doing! Each session will have a book focus, often linked to nature and key events, that will have carefully thought out activities for your child, as well as free play.

Your child will need to bring their Forest School Kit with them every Tuesday, ready for their afternoon sessions. Please note, on a Tuesday your child can come to school in their PE kit, they will then change into their Forest School Kit after lunch.

No matter the weather, I would suggest children wear long sleeve tops and trousers, just to protect them while being outside!

WHAT TO WEAR IN SUMMER

  • Summer Waterproofs

  • One pair of comfortable trousers (jogging bottoms or leggings) or fleece trousers

  • One t-shirt, light long sleeved t-shirt

  • One fleecy zip up jacket (in a backpack just in case)

  • One pair of socks

  • Wellies or sturdy closed toe shoes (which you don't mind getting wet and muddy!)

  • A sun hat for sunny days

  • Spare trousers & socks in backpacks (more than one set of each)

  • I would recommend that children arrive at school already wearing an all-day sunscreen.

WHAT TO WEAR IN SPRING/AUTUMN

  • Waterproofs

  • One pair of comfortable trousers (jogging bottoms or leggings) or fleece trousers

  • One long sleeved t-shirt or top

  • One thick jumper

  • One fleecy zip up jacket (in the backpack, just in case)

  • Two pairs of socks. On the bottom, one thin wool or wool blend sock, and the top, a thick wool or fluffy thermal sock

  • Wellies or sturdy closed toe shoes (which you don't mind getting wet and muddy!)

  • Spare trousers & socks in backpacks (more than one set of each)

WHAT TO WEAR IN WINTER

  • Winter Waterproofs (with thermal lining clipped in)

  • Base layer - thermals

  • Next bottom layer - fleece or other warm tracksuit bottoms

  • First top layer - long sleeve thermal layer

  • Second top layer - thin jumper or t-shirt

  • Third top layer - fleece jacket

  • Neck snood

  • Hat and gloves (plenty of spares to be packed in a bag)

  • Four pairs of socks. On the bottom, one thin wool or wool blend sock, and the top, a thick wool or fluffy thermal sock, and two spare pairs to be packed in the backpack

  • Extra Jumpers to be packed in backpack for really cold days

  • Snow boots or sturdy warm outdoor boots

Please note that these are likely to get very muddy. We will be going outside no matter the weather so if it is raining, also bring in a waterproof coat and waterproof trousers. Can all items be labelled, and I would also advise brining in a spare bag for wet/muddy clothes.

If you would like to donate any of the below items to our Forest School, please just let me know!
