Thursday (21.05.20)

Hello! In yesterday's phonics lesson we looked at the digraph 'wh'.  I would like you to have a go at the spellings game on Purple Mash today - where you will need to use the digraphs 'wh' and'ph'. Don't forget to also watch today's Phonics lesson on Letters and Sounds.

Thank you to all of you that sent me your polar bear presentations yesterday. I loved watching them - you were brilliant! You told me so many interesting facts about polar bears, spoke very clearly and confidently and used some fantastic vocabulary. Niamh started her presentation with, "Polar bears are carnivorous mammals." WOW!!  We are going to use Niamh's words today to guide our learning. For your Literacy, I would like you to see if you can find out what a carnivore, a herbivore and an omnivore is (we need to know this by the end of Year 1.) Write a sentence for each one explaining what it is making sure you start with a capital letter and finish with a full stop. Don't forget your finger spaces and make sure that your sentence makes sense. When you have checked your sentences, see if you can think of any animals that are carnivores/ herbivores /omnivores. Talk to a grown up about this.

In our Maths today we are still talking about measures, but today's lesson introduces weight and mass.

Year 1 - Week 5 - Lesson 4 - Introduce weight and mass

This is "Year 1 - Week 5 - Lesson 4 - Introduce weight and mass" by White Rose Maths on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

And finally......going back to Niamh's presentation.......she also found out that a polar bear is a mammal. Do you know what a mammal is? This is something else that we need to learn about in Year 1, so I would like you to watch this BBC Bitesize clip all about mammals.
When you have finished watching it and completed the follow up quiz, see how many different mammals you can name.
