Week 2 (30.3.20)

Hi! Welcome back to another online working week! I wanted to start by saying a big thank you to all for working so hard last week on all of our learning activities. Let's see if we can get some more great work completed this week too. I hope you are all keeping safe and well.

Monday

Hopefully you are still managing the Joe Wicks workouts. If you feel like you need a day off - why not try some cosmic yoga instead?

Literacy

Start off today by warming up your brains with the 'Phonics, spellings' quiz on Purple Mash. Once you have completed this, read through Chapter 3 of Little Red with an adult and then see if you can complete the Missing words game.

Maths

Practise counting in 2's, 5's and 10's again today. See if you can complete the counting in 10's game on Purple Mash and then have a go at the counting in 5's maze activity in your take home pack.

Other Activities

On Purple Mash I would like you to have a go at the 'building a house for Grandma' game.

Next I would like you to create a design for a castle model. (This is what you have been saving your recycling for!) Draw your design and label the parts of the castle that you would like to include. Throughout the rest of the week I would like you to see if you can build your own 3D junk model castle!

Tuesday

Literacy

Warm yourselves up today by playing the 'Fruit tree word spot' game on Purple Mash. You will need to remember what we learnt in class about plurals for this.  Next I would like you to read Chapter 4 of our 'Little Red' story and then play the matching pairs game. For your last literacy job today I would like you to complete the mouse and cheese tricky word matching game from your take-home pack. Then see if you can write these tricky words into your books. If you want to challenge yourself then you could use them in a sentence. Don't forget your capital letter, full stop and finger spaces.

Maths

For your maths work today I would like you to complete the Spring number bonds sheet from your take-home pack (the one with the part whole models on it). Once you have drawn the correct number of eggs, see if you can write the corresponding sums out into your maths books (don't forget that we can use these to find out subtractions facts as well as addition facts.)

e.g. 5 + 9 = 14

      9 + 5 = 14

     14 - 9 = 5

     14 - 5 = 9

See if you can complete the other ones on your own!

Other activities

Carry on building your junk model castle today. Whilst you are building it, see if you can name all the different material types that you have collected/are using e.g. paper, plastic, card, fabric, metal. Please send me photographs of any completed models and I will put them onto the website to share with your friends. Thank you!

Wednesday

Phonics - Use the cloze game on Purple Mash to practise your ie, ea and oy sounds today.

Literacy - Read Chapter 5 of the 'Little Red' story. Talk to a grown up. Did you expect the story to have this ending? How was the story the same/different to the traditional version of the story?

Now see if you can sequence the pictures retelling the story on Purple Mash.

Can you now challenge yourself to draw a story plan telling the story of what happens in your castle. Use the castle and characters that you have already practised.  Draw pictures showing the main events in your story. You may want to add some labels to the pictures.

Maths - Write out the addition number facts to 20 in your books e.g. 0 + 20 = 20

                                                                                                              1 + 19 = 20

                                                                                                                      2 + 18 = 20

                                                                                                  Can you spot the pattern?

Now use these facts to help you play the racing game on Purple Mash.

Other Activities - See if you can complete the Materials Hunt worksheet from your take home pack.

Don't forget to send me a photograph of your castle model once it is completed. We have some fantastic ones already. Look out for the pictures on the website.

Thursday

Literacy - Get yourself warmed up this morning by reading through the list of common exception words in your take home pack and then play the spellings game on Purple Mash. Next I would like you to write some sentences to accompany your story plan pictures. You will be like the author of a book - writing all the words. (Yesterday you were the illustrator!) Don't forget capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in your sentences.

Maths - See if you can complete the 'Addition and subtraction to 20 - Colour by number' sheet in your take home pack today. Write the sums out in your book and work out the answers.  Look carefully at the sign (is it add or take-away?) and think about how you can work out the answers. Then colour the picture using the key.

I know that some of you enjoyed the racing game yesterday - so I have put this onto Purple Mash again for you if you would like to have another go. You can use the sums that you wrote out yesterday to help you and see if you can beat your score.

Other Activities - Still thinking about material types - see if you can complete the 'In the Toy Box' sheet from your take-home pack today.

Friday

I have not set any work today as it is an INSET day.

Enjoy the sunshine outside instead (if it stays with us!) or feel free to challenge yourself to one of the activities from your take-home pack or a game on Purple Mash if you would like to.
