Year 5 Class Page

Summer Term 2022

We have a very busy and exciting term planned for Year 5 and we are looking forward to exploring our new learning.

Class Routines.

Reading

Reading books and diaries need to be in school every day and will be checked weekly.  Rewards are given for children completing lots of reading at home.  Children can change their books when they have finished reading them.

The expectation is that children will read everyday for ten minutes and this will be recorded in their reading diaries. Reading diaries will be checked weekly.

PE will be on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

Spelling lists will be added in the homework section of our class page and children will bring home a copy of the spellings they are learning.  Spelling tests will take place each week.

Century Nuggets

Children will also be allocated Reading, Maths and Spelling and Grammar Nuggets on a weekly basis, they will both support current learning and prepare for learning that will follow. It is also a great opportunity to practice any areas that children may not be fully confident with or to challenge themselves. Please note that children can follow their own pathway and search for key areas that they may find difficult or need extra support with. If you need any further guidance on Century please do not hesitate to contact me. Nuggets will be checked weekly and time will be provided where children have had difficulties completing the set nuggets.

Daily Maths Homework

To support children's mathematical fluency, we will be adding a new aspect to our homework, this is a daily fluency task where children will be expected to answer arithmetic style questions, they will be set in the class homework folder under the heading My Mini Maths.

Children can complete these at home and we ask that the number they scored correct on each is added into the reading diary, where they find a specific task difficult please note down in the diary and we can pick up on this area in school.

Answers will be posted on a Friday. The first three weeks have been uploaded and are ready to go.

If you have any issues please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Throughout the Year we will be using a growth mindset and we will use the power of yet to help us to approach all learning with positivity even where we may find tasks tricky. I would like you to continue to use this at home.
