Please check back weekly to see what Year 5 have been up to as they love to share their learning journey!

A Start of Term Note from Mr McKie...

Our School Day

  • Our doors open at 8.40am for a prompt start at 8.45am. The day concludes for Year 5 at 3.20pm.

  • Pupils who are travelling to school independently may bring a mobile phone with them. However, once at school, their phone must be turned off and stored in the class phone box in the school office until the end of the day.

PE and Swimming Lessons

  • Swimming will be held on Thursdays and PE lessons take place on Fridays. Pupils should wear their PE equipment to school on both of these days. Swimming will begin on Thursday 14th September.

Homework and Spellings

  • Our homework tasks will be available via Century Tech. This will be assigned on Thursdays and due in on the following Thursday.

  • The children will also receive their weekly spellings on a Thursday, with a test on the following Wednesday. Spellings will be given out on paper for the children to take home.

Reading Expectations

  • The children will be given a school reading book, which is suited to their assessed reading level. This, along with a school reading diary, will be given to them in the second week of term. The children are required to read their school reading book to an adult four times a week. Each instance of reading needs to be signed off by an adult in their reading diaries.

  • In addition to this, in Year 5 we have our own class library and borrowing system. The children can borrow any of these books, and these can be signed out with me and taken home. There are a wide range of books available, and we build upon the library each year – so if there are any books that your child particularly likes reading please mention it to me and I will keep an eye out for them! Borrowing from this library is optional, it is simply to try and encourage the children to read for enjoyment if they wish to.
