Autumn Term 2021

Welcome to Year 5

We have a very busy and exciting term planned for Year 5 and I am really looking forward to getting to know all of the Staff, children and parents and to work with the fabulous community at St Austin's.

Our Vehicle for this term is a PSHE/PE based Vehicle called-

'Learning to be Leaders'

We will be starting the term with two exciting leadership challenge afternoons and we will then begin an challenging project in the Autumn Term where we will work as a team to make a positive difference in our communities.  Children will guide this process and if you know of any groups or areas that may need support please let me know.

On a recent trip to Dovedale in the Peak district, I was shocked at the amount of litter and debris that many visitors had left, moving me to consider how as the next generation, we can work together to have an impact. I would welcome any emails in this respect and areas where we may be able to support. All ideas will be considered and children will embark upon their journey to help make a difference.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

You can email me (dgrattage@st-austins.staffs.sch.uk) or make an appointment to speak to me via the school office.

Best wishes,

Mr Grattage

Class Routines.

Reading books and diaries need to be in school every day and will be checked weekly.  Rewards are given for children completing lots of reading at home.  Children can change their books when they have finished reading them.

PE will be on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

Spelling lists will be added in the homework section of our class page and children will bring home a copy of the spellings they are learning.  Spelling tests will take place each week.

Children will also be allocated homework tasks on a weekly basis, they may include Century Nuggets to support current learning or to prepare for learning that will follow. It is also a great opportunity to practice any areas that children may not be fully confident with or to challenge themselves.

This Year we will be using a growth mindset and we will use the power of yet to help us to approach all learning with positivity even where we may find tasks tricky. I would like you to begin using this at home.
