Physical Education Curriculum

PE at St Austin's...

At St Austin’s Primary School we want every child to be happy and enthusiastic learners of Physical Education, and to be eager to achieve their very best in order to fulfil their God-given talents. We firmly believe that the recipe for success is high quality first-wave teaching in Physical Education, which is central to the life of our happy, caring school.

School Games Mark:

The School Games Mark is a government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.

What are the key criteria?

Each School Games Mark application is divided into four sets of questions. They cover the following basic topics...

  • Participation - how many young people at your school are being engaged in sporting activity?
  • Competition - how many different sports are being played and how many competitions are being entered?
  • Workforce - how many pupils are involved in leadership activities alongside taking part in competitions?
  • Clubs - how many local links does your school have with clubs or establishments from the area?

We are delighted to have received the School Games Mark 2019 - 2020 Recognition and Virtual Award

After school sports clubs:

-Throughout the year we offer a range of different sports clubs. These are run by an external provider ASM and by the Wolves Foundation programme.

Competitions entered so far this academic year (2019-2020):

-High 5's and Football at BWH (17th Sept 2019)

-Y3/4 Cross Country (18th Sept 2019)

-Y5/6 Cross Country (19th Sept 2019)

Keeping Active:

At St Austin's we like to keep as active as possible. All children take part in 2hours of scheduled PE lessons a week as well as activities such as the daily mile and skipping. Children at our school also attend swimming lessons weekly in Y4.

We also encourage the children to keep active during the weekend using our "Unplugged" bags. They are filled with sports equipment that the children can enjoy using with their families. Keep an eye out as the bags will be given out in classes soon!
